What is a Career Change Dog?
Our professional trainers carefully select our dogs by evaluating them for temperament, health and eagerness to please. They are rescued from shelters where they are at risk for euthanasia. They enter a rigorous training program to become Hearing Dogs for people who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Not all of our outstanding dogs can meet the demands of becoming a Certified Assistance Dog, thus the need for a "Career Change". They are, however, still winners, and make wonderful pets. Many are already housebroken and some know basic obedience commands. In short, these "near misses" make wonderful companions. We can help match you with a lifelong canine companion.

Tawny is a 1 year old Long-Haired Chihuahua/Doxi mix. She is an active young dog who enjoys going for walks and playing with toys, but she's also happy to spend quality time on a lap. She isn't used to being at home alone so we are looking for an adopter who is at home most of the time. Tawny is healthy and vaccinated. She loves kids and adults but needs a moment to get used to the adults. She is also an alarm barker. She likes other dogs and enjoys playing with them, but she doesn't enjoy sharing a person's lap. She might prefer to be an only dog but we will consider each adoption application individually. Tawny is being stubborn about housebreaking. With proper supervision we think she could be potty trained, but we are still having some accidents in the house.
We will offer guidance on that but we do not guarantee housebreaking. Tawny is a bit of a door dasher so she will need a home with a secure fence that a small dog cannot escape from. If you live within 50 miles of our facility in Malibu, Ca, and would like to be considered to adopt Tawny, please fill out our online application. We will contact you if we think she might be a good match. Potential adopters are invited to our facility to meet the dog they are interested in. After that meeting, we ask you to think it over for 24 hours. We will deliver the dog should the match be finalized. There is no adoption fee.
