What is a Career Change Dog? Our professional trainers carefully select our dogs by evaluating them for temperament, health and eagerness to please. They are rescued from shelters where they are at risk for euthanasia. They enter a rigorous training program to become Hearing Dogs for people who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Not all of our outstanding dogs can meet the demands of becoming a Certified Assistance Dog, thus the need for a "Career Change". They are, however, still winners, and make wonderful pets. Many are already housebroken and some know basic obedience commands. In short, these "near misses" make wonderful companions. We can help match you with a lifelong canine companion.

Jasper

Posted on 6/16/2021

Jasper is a 1 ½ year old Terripoo mix.  He weighs 10 lbs. and is neutered and vaccinated—healthy guy!  He does appear to have some seasonal allergy itch.  A bit of chewing on his feet and scratching but is easily interrupted and stops.  He has received (2) Cytopoint injections (safe and effective antibody shot) since we have had him.  They are administered by the vet and costs about $25.

Jasper was adopted from a local animal shelter and brought into training to become a Hearing Dog.  He was ‘career changed’ to companion pet before he could get beyond ‘basics’ in our training.  He has had some in-store socialization but over-all, too timid with loud sounds.  His also lacks bravery with grooming and is quite fearful of the grooming shears.  He has shown some improvement since we have had him but will need this to continue with an experienced, kind and patient groomer.

Jasper is sweet, affectionate, playful, enjoys his cuddles, and shows his enthusiasm occasionally with a case of the ‘zoomies’. He lives with all sizes of dogs and plays at times but prefers people.  He has met a cat and spent time with a gently toddler. He loves neighborhood walks and riding in someone’s lap in the car. He is crate trained and rarely barks.
