"The Simpsons" Sam Simon To Receive WGA West Animation Caucus Award!

Veteran television writer-producer Sam Simon, who co-developed Fox’s long-running animated series The Simpsons and has been a writer, producer, and director on Taxi, Cheers, The Tracey Ullman Show, and The Drew Carey Show, will receive the Writers Guild of America, West Animation Writers Caucus’ (AWC) 16th Annual Animation Writing Award, recognizing his outstanding contributions to the craft of animation writing.

The AWC’s lifetime achievement award will be presented to honoree Simon tomorrow night, Thursday, November 21, at the AWC’s annual meeting, reception, and awards ceremony at WGAW headquarters in Los Angeles.

PETA to name HQ after "The Simpsons" co-creator

PETA next month will name its Norfolk headquarters after a Hollywood donor who helped create a famous TV character with an unquenchable appetite for bacon. Even more improbable, the president of the animal rights group finds the character, Homer Simpson, hysterical. "He's a schlub who likes bacon who doesn't think beyond himself," said Ingrid Newkirk, who couldn't keep from laughing when Homer was mentioned during an interview. "He's an exaggeration of the real, what we have to deal with every day."

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has been in the building, off Brambleton Avenue and on the Elizabeth River, since 1996. It will be named the Sam Simon Center on March 1.

After months of speculation, anticipation and the announcement that Los Angeles-based philanthropist and co-creator of TV’s “The Simpsons,” Sam Simon, had donated funds for the purchase of a ship, Sea Shepherd's new Antarctic patrol ship, the SSS Sam Simon, was unveiled today in the port of Hobart, Tasmania, docked at Macquarie Wharf.
