What is a Career Change Dog? Our professional trainers carefully select our dogs by evaluating them for temperament, health and eagerness to please. They are rescued from shelters where they are at risk for euthanasia. They enter a rigorous training program to become Hearing Dogs for people who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Not all of our outstanding dogs can meet the demands of becoming a Certified Assistance Dog, thus the need for a "Career Change". They are, however, still winners, and make wonderful pets. Many are already housebroken and some know basic obedience commands. In short, these "near misses" make wonderful companions. We can help match you with a lifelong canine companion.

Nala

Posted on 1/25/2022

Nala fills a room with love and joy as she jumps onto your lap, offering kisses and cuddles. Her sweet eyes show nothing but admiration for the people she loves and enjoys spending time with. She is currently being fostered in my busy household that includes two cats, two dogs and a toddler. She enjoys supervised play time with my 3-year-old daughter and is best friends with our 10-month-old kitten. Her favorite activities include playing fetch in the backyard, sunbathing, going up the slide with my toddler, quiet neighborhood walks and chewing on a Nylabone when the family is gathered. She has great house manners  and is reliable with potty training. She is also very people-oriented…all visitors must be for her! Nala can be a bit intimidated by unfamiliar sites and sounds, so she will do best with a person or family living in a home with fenced yard and willing to spend the time, love and care to continue with her socialization.

We will consider all applications but will need to place preference on those within a 50 mile radius of Malibu.

If you feel Nala is the dog for you, please visit www.samsimonfoundation.org to complete our application. If you have trouble viewing the online application, please e-mail Jackie@samsimonfoundation.org
