What is a Career Change Dog?

Our professional trainers carefully select our dogs by evaluating them for temperament, health and eagerness to please. They are rescued from shelters where they are at risk for euthanasia. They enter a rigorous training program to become Hearing Dogs for people who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Not all of our outstanding dogs can meet the demands of becoming a Certified Assistance Dog, thus the need for a "Career Change". They are, however, still winners, and make wonderful pets. Many are already housebroken and some know basic obedience commands. In short, these "near misses" make wonderful companions. We can help match you with a lifelong canine companion.

As of January 2015: All adoptions will include a free PetSmart Beginner Training Course (6 weeks) compliments of The Sam Simon Foundation when you sign up with your new dog.

Pink is a 2 year old terrier mix and weighs roughly 40 lbs. She loves to play with other dogs and although she is shy and timid with new people, she warms up and enjoys all affection. She would do best in a home with another small confident, playful dog and owned by a couple or single person who has retired from work or working from home. She enjoys car rides and regular outings which currently include a 3 mile walk several times a week.

Iggy is a 1 year old, 14 lb. neutered spaniel mix. He is sweet, playful and loves being around dogs. When he was rescued, it was discovered that he was likely born with some special challenges that make him endearing yet quirky. He will need someone whose passion is to devote time and patience to a dog in need of a forever home. He has many, many years to offer someone faithful companionship. If you think you are this person for Iggy, please fill out our application and contact us to meet this lovable boy.

Peaches & Rover

Peaches is a spayed female Yellow Lab and Rover is a neutered male Black Lab. Both approximately 2 to 3 years old. They are super sweet and loving with people, but fearful of dogs they haven't met. They were the victims of severe neglect. They had major flea damage as well as malnutrition. They are looking much better and healing nicely. They still feel the need to protect their resources, and will need to be fed separately. We want to place them in a home together, because they depend on each other and are very attached. We don't have the heart to separate them. If you are interested in adopting two amazingly smart and sweet Labs, please fill out our online application.

Remi is a 1 year old spayed female terrier/corgi mix and weighs 14lbs. She was rescued after nearly a month in the animal shelter overcoming illness. She was selected to be in our Hearing Dog Program but we could see she was a bit too shy and timid side to feel at ease in places like Costco. Now we think she is the perfect companion for a lucky person or family! Remi is playful, silly and affectionate. She loves to play with other dogs and enjoys all the comforts of home. She is still on the puppy side, so she will need a family that can supervise her activities and give her some fresh air throughout the day.
