What is a Career Change Dog?

Our professional trainers carefully select our dogs by evaluating them for temperament, health and eagerness to please. They are rescued from shelters where they are at risk for euthanasia. They enter a rigorous training program to become Hearing Dogs for people who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Not all of our outstanding dogs can meet the demands of becoming a Certified Assistance Dog, thus the need for a "Career Change". They are, however, still winners, and make wonderful pets. Many are already housebroken and some know basic obedience commands. In short, these "near misses" make wonderful companions. We can help match you with a lifelong canine companion.

Maribelle

Maribelle is a 1 year old Bassett/Beagle X that weights 58lbs.  She was an owner surrender to the shelter as a young puppy because of isolation barking (being left home alone).  Since she has been in our care, this has not been an issue, although she is rarely left alone.  Maribelle does have an allergy to grasses and so her exposure needs to remain limited.  While she definitely needs dog friends in her life, we have to monitor that she is not too playful for long, as she does have an orthodpedic issue that can cause her to limp from discomfort and sometimes warrants pain medication.   She is a friendly dog who is always eager to learn something new and will do well with training classes.  She enjoys kids but can get mouthy with excitement and so would prefer an adult, or teenage kids only home.  She would love to be with someone who knows and loves the basset and the beagle breeds and where she will feel like the princess she believes to be.

Gabby is a black lab/Shepherd Mix. She is approximately 1 year old. She's an active girl who does not like to be left alone. She gets along great with other dogs, large and small. She is shy at first but ultimately enjoys people and being petted and loved on. She gains a lot of her confidence from other dogs, so a home with a confident, friendly dog would be perfect for her.
