What is a Career Change Dog? Our professional trainers carefully select our dogs by evaluating them for temperament, health and eagerness to please. They are rescued from shelters where they are at risk for euthanasia. They enter a rigorous training program to become Hearing Dogs for people who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Not all of our outstanding dogs can meet the demands of becoming a Certified Assistance Dog, thus the need for a "Career Change". They are, however, still winners, and make wonderful pets. Many are already housebroken and some know basic obedience commands. In short, these "near misses" make wonderful companions. We can help match you with a lifelong canine companion.

CJ

Posted on 9/6/2019

CJ is an 12-month-old,  58lb., neutered English Cream Golden Retriever.  He was brought into our program from a private owner at 4 months of age.  As he has been growing and maturing with us, we evaluated him for our Assistance Dogs Program, but he lacks the confidence we look for in public situations and travel in the car.

CJ is the typical goofy and loving golden.  He is playful with other dogs and very attached to his people. CJ was not the easiest pup to raise and still has challenges with house manners.  He has become accustomed to having someone with him and the other dogs he lives with nearly all the time.  When he is not outside in the play yard with a trainer and dogs, he is inside enjoying the comforts of home.

CJ does have a few quirks and therefore the type of home he would thrive in looks like this: an adequately sized fenced yard; a home with one young, playful dog; a dog parent that is home most of time and enjoys grooming and walking dogs.  CJ has some separation stress and would not do well being left at the groomers or being boarded away from home during family vacations.

Golden Retrievers have the highest rate of cancer of all dog breeds so we do all we can to keep the environment around CJ as natural and free of commercial cleaners, soaps and other products with questionable ingredients both in the home and yard. Our preference is to match CJ with a dog parent(s) that is like-minded.

If you think you are the home for this young boy, please complete our online adoption application so that we can learn about you and address any questions or concerns.  Our application can be found under 'Dogs for Adoption' at www.samsimonfoundation.com  We are a small program that conducts Career Change Dog adoptions in the home so we keep placement of our dogs within 50 miles of Malibu, CA.
