What is a Career Change Dog?

Thank you for your interest in adopting a career change dog from The Sam Simon foundation. The following questions are important to provide us with the information needed to help you choose the best dog for your home.

Please understand that dogs are categorized as ‘Career Change Dogs’ because they are not suited to complete the Hearing Dog Training Program. This can be for a variety of reasons and we are happy to discuss why a particular dog did not complete the program with you.

Adding a dog into your home will impact your life in many ways. You will be responsible for your new dog’s well-being and health, including Veterinary care, food, exercise, licensing, grooming and for any possible damage your dog may cause to other people’s property. Your dog will give you years of love, loyalty, and companionship for many years to come.

Dogs have varying types of personality, just as people do, and they will often test their new owner to see just how much they get away with! Housebreaking, inappropriate chewing, digging, jumping and barking may be some of the undesirable behaviors you may encounter with your new companion. Not to worry! We will be available to help you overcome some of these challenges that may occur.

Thank you for your cooperation in filling out this application. It is our sincerest wish that any dog we rescue will be placed in a loving home where it will be happy and well-cared for. Please understand that filling out an application does not guarantee you will receive a dog. Our primary concern is to find the most appropriate home for each dog. In some cases, a yard check will need to be done by a representative of The Sam Simon Foundation prior to approving the application. We do require that all family members attend the appointment for the dog they are interested in adopting.

All decisions regarding an adoption application are within the sole discretion of The Sam Simon Foundation. In the event the dog is being mistreated and/or neglected, The Sam Simon Foundation, in their sole discretion, will have the right to remove the dog and place it in a new home. Some homes may be visited prior to approving and application for adoption and we do require that you allow a representative to visit the home and dog within 60 days of adoption unless otherwise arranged.

We are a 501 C3 non-profit organization privately funded through the generosity of Mr. Sam Simon so we do not accept any public donations.
WE OFFER THESE SERVICES FREE OF COST TO ALL RECIPIENTS OF OUR PROGRAMS.
